Artist Manifesto
Art, to me, is an expression that cannot be conveyed in words alone. It is a reflection and declaration of beauty and truth or lack thereof in a way that is indisputable. Therefore I am able to express both my view of my life as well as the struggles that I believe make us human and connected. I gravitate towards alluding to and giving themes to what I want to convey and say. Through mood, line, and emotions are shown, I can express my themes and message in a way that requires the viewer to actively participate in putting together my message. This indicates to me that art has just as much of a social purpose as a personal one. As empathy and understanding can bring people together, this can be encouraged further through the visual reminders that art can bring. When art can bring people together and help them find that no struggle is theirs alone, it makes me proud to be able to create art and motivates me more to bring to light what others might find themselves hiding.
Other Aspects of art that make me happy are the often parts such as the community surrounding different aspects and the kind of difference it can make. When making art, you have the opportunity to express your thoughts, ideas, and experiences for others to be able to observe. Through this, you can meet very different people with similarities that would otherwise be unreachable. Art serves the role and function of communication. In this role, the artist could be depicted as the muscle and conductor. As the skills that have been honed and practiced by the artist are put into place to create an experience.
One of the most difficult parts of creating art is the active discovery during the process. I always start my projects with what could be described as a statement and as I work on them I start to filter parts of my personality into the work. It also becomes a work where I discover something about myself or experiences. Art is fluid before it is fully put down on a surface. When working on pieces it is impressive to stick to the original plan and to finish with the exact image you had imagined. However, if you trust your gut reactions and the ideas that come to you, you will have a piece that is entirely yours on a more personal level when finished.
